Funnel Cloud From Steele, MO
Posted on 20:27 by Unknown
We have had several funnel clouds reported over the past two days. There was no damage because most of these funnels never became tornadoes, meaning they never made it to the ground.Out of all of the photos I have seen over the past two days, this is the most impressive. This one was sent to us from Bryan Wells. He snapped this shot near Steele, MO yesterday. Great shot Bryan... My wife's grandfather (Paw Paw) and I were really close to this one, but it went back up before it made it to Highway 412 in Senath.

Highway 358 Washed Out
Posted on 10:11 by Unknown
Part of Highway 358 in Greene County was washed out last night in the flash flooding. It's amazing to see the power from water. The boys, a friend, and I went to see the damage and it looked pretty extensive. From my understanding, they hope to have it open sometime today. I assume it will be gravel for awhile.

Mobile Storm Center
Posted on 19:00 by Unknown

I love technology! I now have everything I need in the Wood Ford StormTRACKER. This evening I worked on the technology to have access to every computer in the StormCenter and it has paid off. From now on I can access StormTRACK Doppler 8 and all of the computers that make our graphics. This is going to help me greatly! For example, tomorrow I am going "live" from the Loose Caboose Festival. I can leave the house, make my graphics on location, manipulate StormTRACK Doppler 8, and even click through my graphics out in the field! It's literally a mobile Storm Center now.
With an Internet air card, webcam, mic, GPS, TwitterDeck, and Gibson Ridge Radar.... I can literally go live on location with all of the weather data that I need from one vehicle and can produce a LIVE broadcast. Add in the top of the line radio equipment from Paragould Communications and I can't imagine anything else I need in a chase vehicle!
Can you tell that I'm excited?

Ever Question StormCAST?
Posted on 06:04 by Unknown

It amazes me how accurate StormCAST is sometimes. Here lately, it has been extremely accurate. StormCAST is a computer model that is ran at KAIT. It's called "MicroCast" and is run 4 times per day. Take a look at the model I showed you last night at 6:00 and then take a look at the radar image from this morning. Pretty good, huh?
Have a gret day, rain chances are not that high, especially after these showers move through.

Happy Mother's Day!
Posted on 15:10 by Unknown
This year my boys made her some cards. The oldest one is getting good at being creative. We went to Walmart and bought some crafts, printed off some pictures, hid from mom, and made some cards. It was a great time! We also made breakfast and lunch. Despite being Mother's day, she still cleaned up after lunch! I tried to sop her, but anyone that knows her understands that she had to clean up...
After Church I called my mom and we chatted for a bit. Since she lives so far away, we did not visit. When I think back, my mom sure did have to put up with some craziness from me. She deserves to have some time away from me these days! LOL
Of course, I think back to my stepmom on this day, too. It does not seem like she passed away year and a half ago. The time seems a lot shorter.
I hope all of the mother's had a great day. We really appreciate you.

Accidental Tornado Siren Blast
Posted on 00:35 by Unknown
Apparently the tornado sirens in Bay, AR just blasted on accident. We received phone calls from residents saying they were blowing, but when I called the Bay Police Department, they said it was an accident. They said that the lightning must have hit the system and sounded them.
I'm sure the residents that just took cover for no reason aren't too happy about that right now. My gut feeling tells me that we may hear more about the 2:30 AM Accidental Tornado Siren in Bay.... Stay tuned.
I'm passing the torch to Justin shortly. He'll be in call for the rest of the night.
Take care,
Ryan

Outflow Boundary
Posted on 22:49 by Unknown
Do you see the line of light green pushing out ahead of the strong storms? That's the outflow boundary. Imagine the winds blowing out from the storm as it moves. It's blowing dirt, bugs, etc out ahead of it and that "stuff" shows up on radar. Cool huh?Ryan
PS--- Just made an animation:
12:35 AM Update

Well... The tornado warning just expired and luckily there was no damage. There were reports of wall clouds, but that's it. I'll continue to update my Twitter feed on the right side of the page.

2:00 AM Update
Posted on 23:50 by Unknown

I said that flooding would be the main threat and that's already proving to be the case in Independence County. Rainfall estimates from radar shows that parts of that area have already picked up over 2" of rain and it is still pouring! Click on the image below for a closer inspection. Sulphur Rock to Cord have been hammered.
Stay dry... Twitter updates continue on the right side of the page.

Not Severe
Posted on 23:12 by Unknown
FYI- We have lightning and thunder, but the severe weather is outside of Region 8. Sleep tight. Flooding will be our problem over the next few days.

Midnight Update
Posted on 21:57 by Unknown
Heavy rain still appears to be the main threat for Region 8. Even though the SPC has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, I believe most of the severe weather will remain South of I-40. As of midnight, all of the warnings (including tornado warnings) are well south of our viewing area. I fully expect to see more flooding than severe weather reports.I'm still watching the storms!

Westside 2nd Graders!
Posted on 16:34 by Unknown

I had a great time today at Mrs. Pennington's class at Westside. Student teacher, Mrs. Harris, invited me to come by as an end to their unit on weather. Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Pennington must have taught the kids well because they knew about weather and had some GREAT questions.
We had a fun time with experiments and we discussed how they can find their tornado "safe spot" at home. These kids will be safe in a storm!Ryan

This Week
Posted on 21:26 by Unknown
Before going to bed, I decided to glance over the "Overview" window on the latest GFS BUFKIT profile (that's just some wx data!)... The timestamp goes from right to left... I labeled each period that I'm discussing with numbers, click image to enlarge:
#1- Break on Monday with "a few" breaks in the clouds.
#2- Mostly dry on Tuesday, with a chance late. Hopefully after our baseball game!
#3- Stormy on Wed. Some Strong?
#4- Break on Thu... and some sunshine!
#5- More stinkin' storms... some strong.
I wish it were all dry... I'm just the messenger. At least we get some breaks!!!

Fun With Cardboard
Posted on 20:47 by Unknown
Coming soon to a Hays store near you will be a cardboard stand-up of yours truly. Well, I had one of them at my house and decided to stick in the closet at my Father-In-Laws. It scared him to death, but he decided to take it out with him the next day to have some fun! I think every employee at AMMC is in this movie!
By the way, we are doing the Hays Backyard BBQ again this year!!! Look for the sign-ups to win on http://www.kait8.com/ soon! Maybe we can cookout in your backyard! It's so fun and the food is AWESOME!!! Look for "me" in your local Hays store in the next few weeks!
Take care,
Ryan
